i am a long time attendee of Tapestry.....this past Sunday i was witness to a strange aberration.....a meeting was held at the end of the service.....the meeting was introduced as "the future of Tapestry".....however that was not exactly the purpose of the meeting.....the purpose was to throw out the pastor.....and it was done in a very detached impersonal parliamentary style presentation with the pastor sitting right there in the front row.....my son Nick and i found it to be quite disturbing.....
there have been quite a few pastors that have past through the doors at Tapestry since i've been attending this church and i have gotten to know and come to like the pastors that i have met....
i see several new face's every Sunday, however most don't return....
they market themselves as a liberal spiritually open community....open to all faiths and philosophies, however they don't seem to know much about or show much interested in learning anything about other religions, faiths, or philosophies....
i find Tapestry to be quite an enigmatic group with no real agenda other the germination of the typical exclusive social club contaminated with the ubiquitous church hierarchy and a compulsive need to [control] the indigenous pastor....
i have contacted some members about this pastor situation and they would not, could not, or otherwise were unable to supply me with any information as to why they are forming a search committee to look for another pastor....not only do i not, as of yet, have any idea why they are not satisfied with the pastor they have, what they are looking for in a pastor, or why they need a pastor at all....it seems to me that a psychotherapist would be more in order....after all, they are all there for a reason....
so far, my impression of the hierarchy at Tapestry reminds me of the scene in the movie Apocalypse Now where Marlon Brando and Martin Sheen are in a dimly lit Taoist/Buddhist temple....Brando sort of reclined squeezing water over his shaved head from a dirty rag and Sheen clinging to life sprawled over in a corner of the dank room.....
Brando asks Sheen; "you're here to terminate my command...."?
Sheen responds; "that's classified...."
Brando; "not anymore...."
Sheen; "they say you're methods are unsound...."
Brando; "are my methods unsound...."?
Sheen; "i don't see any method at all...."
however, that being said, i find the Tapestrians a fascinating enigmatic group....a group that announces in the beginning of the service that they are a "warm community", however, paradoxically, they present a detached and guarded chill....any attempt at "warmth" seems strained under some generic Unitarian Universalist personality trait unique to Unitarian Universalists....
that being said, i have no clue as to:
what is wrong with the present minister?
what it is they are looking for in a minister?
why they need a minister in the first place?
Well, it is now Sunday 2/24/13....the congregation is scanty....many of the hierarchal old guard are no longer there....Jennifer's sermons seem to be taking a dark twist....hopefully the dark sermons represent a death march for Tapestry into a new beginning.....
On the other hand, i am kind of savoring the death of Tapestry so i will be forced to move on....Tapestry never was a fit for me anyhow, that's why i never joined....it may be that there is no place i will fit in, but i'll never know until i step back on the path.....
An interesting note: many of the old guard of Tapestry don't show up now when Jeniffer is speaking an yet every Sunday they paradoxically drape a HUGE banner across the from of the church that reads "LOVE"......Added June 12, 2017 by ken mock - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I enjoy the warmth and caring of the folks at Tapestry. I particularly value the open-mindedness of the congregation and the acceptance of differing belief systems.

Ken Mock's review is appreciated for it's candor, but is very out of date. One should take 3 year old reviews of any churches with a grain of salt.
My family and I have been coming to Tapestry for over 20 years and feel that throughout it's trials, tribulations, transformations and modifications, it remains excellent, filled with people who genuinely care about each other and are thinking about our jobs as stewards of this planet (which is the only one for light years around where you can hear the laughter of children and other earth sounds). They even care about YOU, even if you are not a Unitarian Universalist, even if you do not live in America, even if you disagree, or choose not to believe in any Gods.
We will NOT be coming to knock on your doors at 6 AM, but would be happy to see you at Tapestry. Bring your doubts and concerns about the universe along, everyone has them.Added August 10, 2016 by J.D. Gothard
